MCP for Recruitment: Connecting AI Assistants to Live Hiring Intelligence

Direct answer

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant connect to external software. For recruiters, it means an assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude can work with live, authenticated data in a specialist system like Vente, instead of relying on its training data or what it can find on the public web.

What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standard way for AI assistants to connect to other software. A system that supports it publishes an MCP server describing the things an assistant can look up or do. An assistant that supports MCP can then connect to that server, with the user's permission, and use those capabilities during a conversation.

The result is that you can ask your assistant a question in plain language and it can answer using the connected system's own data, or carry out a supported action in it, rather than guessing.

AI model knowledge versus an assistant connected to a live system

An AI assistant on its own answers from two sources: what it learned during training, and whatever it can find on the public web. Neither knows what is in your recruitment software today. Training data has a cut-off date, and the public web does not contain your lead lists, your team's activity or the hiring managers a specialist platform has already identified for you.

When the same assistant is connected to a specialist system through MCP, it can read authenticated, up-to-date information from that system on request. It can tell you what is in your account because it looks, rather than inferring it.

  • Model knowledge alone: general, can be out of date and has no view of your account.
  • Assistant plus live system via MCP: specific to your account, read at the time you ask and limited to the permissions you approved.

Why this matters for recruitment

Recruitment business development depends on information that changes quickly: which companies are hiring, which vacancies were posted recently, who owns the hire and which leads have already been worked. A general-purpose assistant cannot see that information, and an answer based on stale data can send a consultant after a vacancy that has already been filled.

Connecting an assistant to the system where that intelligence already lives lets recruiters use conversation as the interface. Instead of opening several screens and filters, a consultant can ask what to focus on and get an answer based on their own leads. What an AI assistant can do with Vente today

Vente provides a remote MCP server for connecting supported AI assistants to an authenticated Vente account. It currently documents setup for Claude and ChatGPT. Once connected, an assistant can work with the leads and lists already in your Vente account. It does not search outside them.

  • View lists and leads: see your lists, read what each one is targeting, and search and filter the leads delivered to them by title or company prefix, location, posting date, hiring-manager availability, Hiring Stress and lead status.
  • Prioritise: sort by Hiring Stress and use the list's targeting, the lead's relevance match, job recency and hiring-manager availability to decide what to work first.
  • Read hiring-manager intelligence: retrieve job details and the hiring managers Vente has identified, including name, title, LinkedIn URL and email where available.
  • Discover contact details: ask Vente to discover a hiring manager's email address or phone number. This can use lead credits, and not every contact will have one available.
  • Triage leads: mark leads as actioned or reject leads, individually or in bulk, and reject a company with explicit confirmation. A reason is stored for each action.
  • Work with Vente Pipeline: on accounts with Pipeline enabled, list tasks including those due today, move a lead to another stage, assign a lead to a team member and review pipeline activity.
  • Review team activity and usage: subject to team permissions, see sign-ins, leads actioned and rejected, contact discovery activity, lead delivery usage and pipeline task completion.
  • Control list delivery: list owners can pause or resume a list; pausing requires explicit confirmation.

Combining live hiring intelligence with other systems

Vente returns lead data such as the company name, job title, job location, job URL and hiring managers. If your assistant is also connected to another system, such as a CRM through its own connector, it can use that lead data to look for matches there. For example, it could check whether a company from your Vente leads already exists in your CRM.

The Vente MCP does not search your CRM itself, and the CRM needs to be separately connected to your assistant. To have leads delivered into a CRM automatically, use Vente's CRM integrations, which are separate from MCP.

Security, permissions and control

A connected assistant should only do what you have approved. With the Vente MCP:

  • Authentication uses OAuth 2.0. You connect from your assistant, sign in to Vente, review the permissions requested and approve access. You do not paste an API key.
  • You can revoke a connected application at any time from Connected apps in Vente.
  • Sensitive actions, such as rejecting a company or pausing a list, require explicit confirmation.
  • Reasons are stored for actions such as actioning or rejecting a lead.
  • Team-wide reporting follows manager and owner permissions.

What the Vente MCP does not do yet

The first version of the Vente MCP is focused on working with existing lists, leads, hiring-manager intelligence, triage, reporting and Vente Pipeline workflows. Creating new lead lists and editing a list's targeting are not currently available through MCP. To create or refine lists conversationally, use Conversational AI inside Vente.

What to look for in recruitment software that supports MCP

If you are comparing tools, these questions help separate a genuine integration from a marketing claim:

  • Is it live? Is there a working MCP server you can connect to today, with setup steps for the assistants your team uses?
  • Is it authenticated? Does each user sign in and approve access, with a way to revoke it?
  • What can it read and change? Are read and write capabilities clearly separated, and do sensitive actions require confirmation?
  • Is the data live? Does the assistant read current data from the product, or only a static export?
  • Is the scope stated honestly? Does the vendor say what the MCP does not do as well as what it does?

How to connect an assistant to Vente

The Vente MCP endpoint is https://app.vente.ai/mcp. It uses Streamable HTTP with OAuth 2.0.

  • Claude: in Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector, enter the endpoint, connect, sign in to Vente and allow access.
  • ChatGPT: create a custom MCP app using the endpoint, sign in with Vente, complete the consent screen and enable the app in your conversation. Availability of custom MCP apps depends on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings.
